皇冠线上官网 Graduates Profiles

Arthur Segawa, a native of Uganda, works as a field engineer at the MBTA signal systems department. He served as a technical engineer in the Reserves and was stationed in the Middle East during his service. He is a 2018 alumni of 皇冠线上官网 and transferred to Northeastern University, where he earned a degree in environmental engineering, and took a course to learn about Passive House Technologies in Germany. Segawa plans to apply sustainabilty principles that he learned to his work. He praises the professors at 皇冠线上官网 and the fact that, at 皇冠线上官网, one can work in real-world research team as an undergrad.

Wellesley resident Maddy Weaver has always loved to tinker with anything she could get her hands on. As a child, she enjoyed finding items such as old stereo equipment and vacuum cleaners at the recycling and transfer station to bring home and try to fix. She enjoyed this type of hands-on learning, coming from a long line of engineers in her family. Due to the 皇冠线上官网 Engineering Department S-POWER partnership with Northeastern University, and her academic excellence, Maddy earned a scholarship and completed an Electrical Engineering Bachelor degree at Northeastern University. She continued her education in a Master’s Degree program at Carnegie Mellon University where she works on research in a robotics lab.

Juan Paolo Mesa, a native of Colombia, was five years old when he moved with his family to Boston and then settled in Watertown, in 2005. After Juan graduated from Watertown High School in 2013, he enrolled in the automotive technology program at 皇冠线上官网 Community College to turn his passion for cars into a career. “I didn’t do that well in high school because, to be honest, I was headed down the wrong path,” said Juan. At 皇冠线上官网, Juan turned things around and began focusing on his studies and planning his career path. He enjoyed his BMW classes and earned his Associate in Science degree in Automotive Technology in 2015. After graduation, Juan started working at Herb Chambers BMW in Boston, MA.

“I loved working at BMW in Boston, but I felt like I wasn’t making a big enough impact in the world around me. I really enjoy being outdoors, especially hiking and camping in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been interested in tinkering with technology, so I decided to return to 皇冠线上官网 to combine these interests by studying mechanical engineering with an emphasis on sustainable and clean energy. Mechanical engineering is not an easy field, and it challenges your technical skills. We could only live on this planet for about 80 or 90 years, so my main goal is to leave a positive impact on this world and on the people in it,” Juan added.

Juan transferred to Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 2017 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with honors in May 2021. He was awarded a GEM Fellowship (Graduate Education for Minorities Ph.D. Engineering Fellowship) and attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA in fall 2021 to pursue his Ph.D. on fuel cell technologies. Juan’s future career goals include starting a company that will use new technology to bring alternative energy to developing countries, making them less dependent on fossil fuels.

Associate in Science Degree Programs

Electrical & Computer Engineering

This comprehensive program provides students an overview of the electrical and computer engineering field. Students explore such areas as computer hardware, digital electronics, computer science, and engineering.

Engineering

This program is designed to enhance students’ interest in the math and science fields by pursuing a career in engineering. The program’s core curriculum emphasizes mathematics, physics, and chemistry — the foundation for all engineering projects. The core curriculum is complemented with courses in engineering design, engineering mechanics, and engineering physics.

Engineering Design

Designers translate the ideas, sketches, and specifications of engineers into workable plans and models. Students develop skills and techniques by using the most modern equipment and software, such as AutoCAD®, AutoDesk Revit®, PTC Creo®, SolidWorks®, and MS Project®. Instruction is given in mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, architectural, and multimedia design.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers are active in all engineering functions of a product including creative design, research and development, production and management. Energy, airplanes, automobiles, space vehicles, machinery, earth-moving equipment and medical hardware are but a few examples of the infinite number of products that mechanical engineers have produced through their use of the basic laws of physical sciences.

Certificate Programs

Advanced Manufacturing Innovation

This is a 12-month, three semester long fast track program that offers a stackable certificate in Advanced Manufacturing. The certificate program is designed to provide students with other pathways in the future, such as a relevant associate degree at a community college or for any student already holding a Bachelor degree, a relevant graduate degree.
